Zavien Garrett

UBCP/ACTRA

Zavien Garrett is a mixed African American and Caucasian actor, dancer and aspiring rapper from West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His childhood days consisted of school, soccer, basketball and dance. Zavien’s father introduced him to hip hop music at a young age with a constant soundtrack of Notorious B.I.G, Tupac, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar playing. As much as he was a natural athlete, his love and passion for hip hop music drove him to the arts.

Zavien joined his first hip hop class at the age of 10. He found a love for it, made many friends and at the age of 13 his studio director asked Zavien if he would like to join their high intensity “Half Day” program for the dancing elite. He ended up training in in that program in ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, broadway, contemporary and hip hop dance until the age of 17, winning numerous awards and accolades along the way.

Zavien began his acting career after being signed with da Costa Talent in Vancouver in 2017. After building experience as a dancer on camera in Descendants 3 (Disney), A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish, and Julie and the Phantoms (Netflix), he made his acting debut in Are You Afraid Of The Dark? (Nickelodeon). Other credits include Home Before Dark (AppleTV+), two Monster High films (Paramount), recurring roles in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Blockbuster (Netflix), and a guest star in The Good Doctor (NBC) playing hospital patient Trent.

In the search for other great ways to continue to explore his creativity, Zavien found rapping. With a profound connection to writing and freestyling rap out of love and respect for the culture of hip hop, he made the decision to pursue music as a career. In 2021 he played Reggie in The Flash (CW) and was able to bring that love of rap to the screen. His goal is to share his love for music and inspire people the way his idols inspired him.

Zavien is a simple soul, and regardless of what he is working on, his end goal is to spread positivity through anything he does. Fuelled with inspiration from the minds of Tyler, the Creator and how he makes music videos, to the essence of how to share a producer’s message and narrative on a big screen like Tom Holland, and how to speak without words like Jillian Meyers in La La Land, he learned from these artists that “it can be you” if you match your determination with a strong practice of discipline.

In his off time, Zavien plays soccer and basketball, maintains his fitness with daily walks and work outs, watches films and television, and loves playing video games- namely Mario Kart. He does his best to live in the moment and practices gratitude every day. He hopes to play the next Miles Morales.
