Zara Matthews (she/her) is an actress and musician from St. John’s, NL, Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Russian and a Diploma in Performance and Communications Media from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Zara’s truly diverse performance background encompasses theatre, voice, piano, and classical violin. She began her performance career in main stage musicals before transitioning to film and television. Zara performed a principal role in Black Conflux, directed by Nicole Dorsey, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019. Following Conflux, Zara performed the role of Christine Canigula in the Atlantic Canadian Premiere of the Tony Award Winning Musical, Be More Chill. Zara has taught drama and voice with Moving Pictures Dance Co and has been a member of Etcetera Productions’ performance group, The Company, since 2013. Her album, Ethereal Piano Project, was funded by the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council and is currently available on all streaming platforms.
