Vanessa Cobham

Vanessa Cobham (she/her) is a veteren of the dance industry and is fully trained in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, and Hip-hop. Her commanding appearance draws attention and, her explosive sexy dance style has made many Choreographers, and Directors take notice. A fully certified B.A.T.D teacher in the areas of Tap, Jazz, and Ballet, Vanessa has become one of the most sought after dancers in her field.

Starting her career as a NBA Raptors dancer it opened multiple doors for this dynamic performer. Vanessa had the awesome opportunity to perform at the NBA ALL-STAR GAME for legendary rap artist DOUG E FRESH. During that year Vanessa was spotted at a NBA Raptors game by Director Bryan Buckley and was cast in the role of TANYA in NEW JERSEY TURNPIKES along side Kelsey Grammer of FRASIER and Orlando Jones of MAD TV. This definitely lit a fire under her and she became focused on the television and film industry. Other movies followed such as HONEY, SEVENTEEN AGAIN, BLUE BROTHER’S 2000, THE FAMOUS JETT JACKSON, HOOP LIFE, JAILBAIT, REPO THE GENETIC OPERA, THE PACIFIER, AND HAIRSPRAY. Between doing films Vanessa was also featured in TV specials such as HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA?. THE MIKE BULLARD SHOW, JONOVISION, THE TARA LAPINSKI TV SPECIAL, and RAPTORS TONITE, THE NEXT STAR. Vanessa didn’t stop there, she wanted to get into Television commercials and was fortunate to be cast in Dr. Pepper, ABC NFL football intro, Coors Light, Ford Focus, Budweiser, Mitubushi, TENA and Providence Hospital just to name a few. Of course always trying to strive for more she began looking into other areas of the business she can shine in.

At young age Vanessa has always enjoyed performing for a live audience. Vanessa was hired by renouned choreographer to the stars BARRY LATHER to perform in, Retro-Repeat the Beat and, Blockbuster Ultimedia at PARAMOUNT CANADA’S WONDRLAND. This was just a stepping-stone to one of her biggest Theatrical debuts. Selected by TONY WARD WINNING choreographer GARTH FAGAN, Vanessa was cast in the Tony Award Musical THE LION KING. She was ENSEMBLE with a FEATURE BALLET duet during the infamous song “CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT” Soon after she was cast in CHICAGO as JUNE, and DREAMGIRLS.

In addition to working in television, film, and stage Vanessa has always had the desire to dance for artists in the music industry. She began dancing for local Canadian artists such as Maestro, In Essence, Sky, Michie Mee, Kardinal Official, Wade .O. Brown, Suzie McNeil and, Glen Lewis. While on vacation in New York City Vanessa heard about a dance audition for a video featuring NAS, AZ, DAWN ROBINSON, and FOXY BROWN called FIRM BIZ. Video director HYPE WILLIAMS selected the young Toronto native as one of the main dancers in the video. This was very unexpected on her first trip to New York City. The buzz continued and, Vanessa ended up back in New York working for ARISTA RECORDS (now SONY) recording artist TOYA under choreographer LORI-ANNE GIBSON and LUTHER BROWN of P.DIDDY’S MAKING THE BAND. Vanessa toured the United States with Toya opening for rapper NELLY. The highlight for her was performing on one of the most popular African American tv shows SOUL TRAIN, as a back – up dancer for TOYA. She has also worked with Wila Ford, Tweet, Jada Kiss, James Brown, Queen Latifah and, Boyz II Men.

Vanessa has been truly greatful for all the blessing that she has experienced in her career. FAME was one Vanessa’s favorite TV shows that inspired her and, still does to this day.
