Taran Kim’s rise in the performing arts has reached a new and excited level with his recent lead role as Leo in the k-pop inspired “Gangnam Project,” a vibrant series set in Korea and produced by Pillango Productions and Aircraft Pictures. This pivotal role not only showcases Taran’s commanding presence on screen but also underscores his versatility as an actor, adept at navigating the complexities of character and culture.

Born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario, Taran embarked on his artistic journey at the young age of six, exploring and excelling in hip hop, jazz, and Latin/ballroom dance styles. His passion for the performing arts was further ignited during his time at Cawthra Park Secondary School, where he majored in drama. Here, Taran developed a profound love for musical theatre, choir, and contemporary dance, setting the stage for a promising career ahead.

Taran’s dedication to his craft led him to Sheridan’s prestigious Musical Theatre Performance program, where he refined his skills and prepared for a life on the stage. His theatre credits are both diverse and impressive, with standout performances in “Rock of Ages” at the historic Elgin Theatre, “White Christmas” at the Shaw Festival, “Anne of Green Gables” at the Charlottetown Festival, and “GROW” at The Grand Theatre. These roles not only highlight Taran’s adaptability as a performer but also his contribution to the enrichment of Canadian theatre.

Beyond his achievements on stage and screen, Taran is an inspiring director and choreographer, eagerly anticipating his role as Assistant Director alongside Jeremy Webb in the upcoming Neptune Theatre production of “The Play That Goes Wrong.” His previous engagement as Associate Choreographer for “Bittergirl” at Thousand Island Playhouse further exhibits his talent in guiding performers to embody stories through movement and expression.

Throughout his career, Taran has been passionate about creating and engaging in new work that is innovative, often improv-based, and allows for the art to evolve with each performance. He believes in approaching art and life with conviction, composure, and spontaneity, principles that have guided his journey in the arts.
