Sarah Cantuba was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. and she is the youngest of three daughters of Filipino immigrants. She grew up listening to all genres of music around the house, and it wasn’t until the age of 4 that her parents discovered her voice after they witnessed her singing to a Whitney Houston song on the radio. Soon after listening to that big voice coming out of a tiny body, they knew she was gifted, and decided to sign her up in voice and piano lessons at British Columbia Conservatory of Music.
Growing up, she became active in hip hop and polynesian dance and team sports, while singing competitively in the Lower Mainlands. Sarah won several talent competitions, but it wasn’t until she was in high school where she fell in love with acting and theatre. It was in her Grade 12 year where she played Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz that she decided she wanted to have a career in the performing arts and train professionally in all three categories: Dance, Voice and Acting.
After a few years of bussing tables and saving enough money, she enrolled in the Musical Theatre Diploma Program at Capilano University. For the next three years, she was trained under highly established industry professionals in dance, voice, and acting for stage and screen. Sarah was fortunate to play the lead role in the main stage play in her final year as Elinor Dashwood in Sense & Sensibility. Months before graduating with honours in 2019, Sarah was hired to work internationally with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines on the “Vision of the Seas” as a Lead Vocalist.
Sarah is a force to be reckoned with. Her ability to embody any character while staying authentic and vulnerable is what makes it a pleasure to watch and to work with. She believes that your dreams can be a reality as long as you continue to stay hungry; learning and developing your art. Sarah is beyond ecstatic for her next chapter in her career with da Costa Talent.
