Zara Matthews

Zara Matthews (she/her) is a Canadian triple threat actress known for her compelling, earthy performances. She recently portrayed Katy the babysitter in the gripping Lifetime feature, Maid for Revenge.

After making huge waves as Ellen in the psychological thriller, Black Conflux, Zara took on the iconic role of feisty ingénue Christine Canigula in the Tony Award Winning Musical, Be More Chill. Following the premiere of Black Conflux at TIFF in 2019, she went on to star in SYFY’s SurrealEstate opposite Tim Rozon and Sarah Levy. You can also catch her on Citytv’s hit police procedural, Hudson & Rex, as Justina Capaldi/Tour Guide alongside everyone’s favorite German Shepard, Diesel vom Burgimwald.

With a truly diverse performance background encompassing voice, piano, and classical violin, Zara began her career in theatre before pursuing principal roles in film and television. She is a graduate of Memorial University’s Diploma in Performance and Communications Media and has performed extensively in both classical and musical productions including The Power of One (Perchance Theatre), Our Diva’s Do Christmas (TaDa! Events), The Mermaid (Perchance), Moby Dick – Rehearsed (MUN Drama), Remember the Magic (Etcetera Productions), and Legends (Red Dress Entertainment).

Zara is an accomplished musician, with two albums nearing completion. Ethereal Piano Project, a collection of rock ballads, was funded by the NL Arts Council and is currently available on all streaming platforms. She is currently self-producing a piano album entitled Musical Ruins of Hyrule: Piano Collections. Demonstrating a refreshing diversity in her interests, Zara excels as a columns editor and podcaster with news and media website, Zelda Universe.
