“As Nina, young newcomer Kate Blackburn also hits a home run in her Arts Club debut, powering out her songs in the proud tradition of Broadway belting. These two are both going to be stars.”
– Colin Thomas, The Georgia Strait

Originally from St. Albert, Alberta, Kate grew up participating in competitive dance, voice training, and piano lessons. She is trained in R.A.D. ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop, as well as classical, pop, and Musical Theatre vocal styles. It wasn’t until high school that her passions came together and she developed a love for performing in live theatre.

Kate moved to Vancouver after high school and took a year of general studies at the University of British Columbia before auditioning, being accepted into and completing Capilano University’s three year Musical Theatre Program.

While still attending University, Kate landed her first professional theatre role in Chemainus Theatre’s ‘Singin’ in the Rain’. Since graduating, Kate has been pursuing her professional career, and was cast in her first lead role as Polly Baker in Gateway Theatre’s ‘Crazy For You’. She made her debut in Eastern Canada as Kathy Seldon in Capitol Theatre’s ‘Singin’ in the Rain’, and was recently seen as Hannah in the Toronto Fringe’s hit ‘Life After’ written by Britta Johnson.

Kate has most recently originated a role in the brand new Canadian Musical ‘The Hockey Sweater’ at The Segal Centre in Montreal. The show played to much success, and was a hit with Montreal audiences, with direction and choreography by Donna Feore.

Coming up, Kate heads to Regina to play one of her dream roles, Fiona, in The Globe Theatre’s Shrek the Musical.

Kate is a passionate actor, vocalist, and dancer who is eager to continue pursuing her career and furthering her skills as a triple threat performer.
