Julio Fuentes (he/him) is a choreographer, creative, dance educator, and performer working in theatre, film and television. Originally from Manila, the elegant capital of the Phillipines, he has now spent 25 years living in the natural beauty of Vancouver, BC.
With storytelling at the root of his work, and music at the core, Julio is passionate about bringing creative spaces to life with both breathtaking moments of connection and impossibly deadly jazz hands. He believes in the importance of representation and is proud to be a Filipino immigrant working professionally in Canadian entertainment.
Julio recently choreographed the spirited production of Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol (Arts Club), marking his professional debut choreographing at a major regional theatre. He previously worked as an associate choreographer on Gypsy at the Shaw Festival in 2020 and returned as movement director of Assassins in 2021.
Some performing highlights include In The Heights, Mary Poppins, Beauty & The Beast (Arts Club), the world première of The Little Prince (Theatre Calgary), many memorable productions of Mamma Mia (Citadel Theatre, Arts Club, Stage West Calgary, World Theatre Productions – Guam), Matilda (RMTC, Citadel Theatre, Arts Club), and The Little Mermaid (Align Entertainment; OVATION! nomination: Best Supporting Actor).
You can now catch him as a featured ensemble member on Apple TV’s new musical series, Schmigadoon!
