Jocelyn Gauthier
Actor, Singer
“Top of the list is Jocelyn Gauthier, who plays Susan. Gauthier is a powerhouse singer who knows when to pull back, and an actor capable of heartbreaking nuance.”
– Kathleen Oliver, Georgia Straight

Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, this triple threat performer began cultivating her love for the arts at a very young age. Jocelyn began playing piano at the age of three, and acting, singing, and dancing shortly thereafter. At the age of nine, she was cast as Mary Lennox in a regional production of The Secret Garden, and she never looked back. Jocelyn’s passion for performing, music, and telling stories, combined with her talent, determination, and good-natured competitive streak, has taken her far from her Indiana roots, into the world of profession theatre and film.

A dual citizen, Jocelyn moved to Vancouver upon receiving a President’s Entrance Scholarship to study performing arts. She auditioned, and was accepted to train as an actor in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting program at the University of British Columbia. While still attending university, Jocelyn was cast as the lead in a David DeCoteau feature film, and was also a Top 10 Finalist on the CBC show Triple Sensation, winning an award for Most Outstanding Actress. She graduated from the prestigious U.B.C. conservatory program with distinction, and was immediately accepted into both the American Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in the One Year Masters Classical Acting Program, the latter of which she trained at for a short part of 2010.

In addition to acting, Jocelyn has been playing classical piano and flute from a very young age, has trained in ballet, jazz, and tap, and has been training with a member of the Vancouver Opera since university, studying classical, musical theatre, and popular vocal styles. Her rigorous acting training, combined with her impressive vocal talents and versatility, have allowed her to be successful in many different mediums, winning her numerous awards, and landing her lead roles in almost every one of the more than 30 theatre, musical theatre, and film productions she has been involved in. Recent credits include Maia in the world premiere of Nicholas Lloyd Webber’s new musical The Little Prince (Upcoming); Elle Woods, in Legally Blonde, for which she won an Ovation Award, E.V. Young Award, and an Aida Broadbent Award; Susan in the Canadian Premiere of Snapshots, a Stephen Schwartz musical; Ensemble in Les Miserables; Anais Pnin in The Idiots Karamazov; Beatrice in Unity 1918; Rose in Ruddigore; Elise in The Invisible Chronicles; and Adrienne in Strawman.

In addition to performing, Jocelyn believes that constant and rigorous training is critical to the development of her craft. She has participated and trained in Masters Workshops with Broadway composers Pasek and Paul, Matthew Barry, the Los Angeles based casting director of The Notebook, local casting directors Sean Cossey, Jackie Lind, Tiffany Mak, and Candice Elzinga, and with Peter Jorgenson during his Musical Theatre Masterclass. She also regularly trains with Nadine Wright at Act II Studios in Vancouver. When not engaged in performing, Jocelyn teaches children ages 3 – 18 in musical theatre, singing, and acting. She is passionate about providing training opportunities to the young people of the world, and enjoys giving back to the community by passing on her craft to others.

Jocelyn is a passionate, driven, and dedicated performer, who is ready to seize any opportunity that comes her way. Whether it’s singing, acting, or dancing, performing arts is her true calling, and she is excited to see what the future has in store for her.
