Dedra McDermott

Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Dedra McDermott is a Toronto-based artist and honours graduate from York University’s Choreography and Performance Program. She trained at Leeming Danceworks in an array of styles including ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, improvisation and more. Dancing for over 15 years in various disciplines, she has developed her craft at The Ailey School, Broadway Dance Centre and ProArteDanza’s reputable Apprentice Program.

Dedra has also worked with esteemed educators and choreographers such as Stacey Tookey, Robert Glumbek, Linda Garneau, Roberto Campanella, Anisa Tejpar, Vlad Novitski and Jasmyn Fyffe. In recent years she has performed with Royal Caribbean Productions, Echo Dance Company, Hit and Run Productions, Jasmyn Fyffe Dance and Bridge to Artists. In addition to performing, Dedra is establishing herself as an emerging choreographer.

Eager to develop and promote community-building initiatives for emerging artists, she produced and curated the first installation of “To Be Announced” (September 2016). To Be Announced is a celebration of emerging and professional dance artists performing new creations and previously staged works.
