Dave Campbell is fortunate to be considered one of Canada’s foremost Director/Choreographers for the sheer variety of productions, projects and media that he has the opportunity to work in each year.. He has enjoyed success on both sides of the border, and recently opened his first production in London’s West End.
A graduate of The Ryerson Theatre School in Toronto, his career has taken him through Europe, parts of Asia, the US, and from coast to coast in his native Canada. Highlights include two years at the beautiful Princess of Wales Theatre, and The National Arts Centre national tour of the Mikado with iconic director, Brian Macdonald.
Equally successful in Theatre and Television, Dave is sought after for his wealth of experience, technical and production knowledge, and for his good working relationships which have developed with other professionals in the industry.
For television, Dave has been recruited to stage many of the high profile, high rating shows in recent history including; Canadian Idol, Deal or No Deal, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, Radio Free Roscoe, and currently appears on the small but mighty “The Next Star” on YTV now in it’s fourth season.
A member of ACTRA, and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, twice he has designed opening numbers for the Gemini Awards, as well to honour his co-workers in the crazy but creative Canadian Television Industry. He has contributed choreography to two ‘Canada’s Walk of Fame’ television specials.
Because of his keen director’s eye, his passion for live television, and his ability to work fast under pressure, Dave was asked by veteran director Joan Tosoni to associate direct two live broadcasts of The National Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” which were sent live to Cineplex Odeon Theatres across the country for two seasons.
Dave’s Theatrical Direction credits are extensive, and include a production of Cats which was remounted five times over four years in both Canada and the US. He is co-founder of LaughOutLoud at the Opera house, and and now serves as co-Artistic Director for it’s 17 week season each summer in Orillia, just north of Toronto. His work was honoured during his tenure as resident director of the Sunshine Festival in this same theatre when he was nominated for a Pauline McGibbon Award for excellence in direction in 2006.
The production of ‘A Round Heeled Woman,’ starring Sharon Gless, now running on London’s West End features Dave’s original choreography, and excellent reviews suggest that it may move to Off-Broadway next fall!
Dave splits his time between Toronto, Miami, and a tranquil Muskoka lake, which he occasionally gets to see.
